Red Blogule to the Alliance of Fanatics - Vote Bush-Bin Laden 2004 !

Archives 20041030

(regarding Osama Bin Laden's intervention before the US Elections)

What I saw yesterday was a politician - neither a jihaddist warlord nor a religious leader - inviting himself to the debate, behind his stand. No red tie but as elegant an outfit as Karzai's. He waited for the candidates to use their time up and spill their beans. He's exposing his results and his programs. Facts and figures. No need to talk about his convictions - the message obviously passed earlier during the campaign.

Bin Laden just reminds the American audience he's not at war with the US and that his ennemies are moderate muslims. America was the one to start hostilities, helping Israel attack Lebanon. On September the 11th, Baby Doc paid for Papa Doc. Joseph Goebbels being long gone and Karl Rove being already hired by someone else, I wonder which hotshot propaganda expert this man drafted...

Without spending hundreds of million dollars in campaigning, this man sets the agenda. This is neither about Bush's results nor about Kerry's program. You want to promote democracy ? Be consistent and let the US majority withdraw the troops of Iraq, let the middle east populations, polarized by your fanatism, elect radical leaders... Now that you've done your job beyond my wildest expectations you can leave me alone. You think you're leading the world but you've misled it. Vote Bush-Bin Laden 2004!

White Blogule to John Edwards- One heartbeat away

Archives 20041026

Some Bush supporters think John Edwards is too unexperienced to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

I think John Edwards is a good person and would make a great President.

And I'm much more worried about President Bush being one armpit away from Karl Rove.

White Blogule to the Republicans for Kerry-Edwards

Archives 20041026

To me this election mirrors the fight on terror.

Regarding the latter, Bush doesn't understand (or pretends not to understand) this is not a religious war between America and the terrorists but a war from radical islamists to moderate muslims. The US have been drafted in order to magnify it but I don't think Bin Laden, even in his wildest dreams, ever hoped America would react as stupidly as this Administration did: instead of fighting extremism and terror they fueled it by launching a religious crusade - the way a medieval leader would have proceeded, not a responsible XXIst century leader.

Regarding this election, the key battle is not about Reps vs Dems: we are witnessing an attempted coup of extremists on the GOP, against moderate Republicans. Should Bush win November the 2nd, there may well be a much deeper crisis within the Republican party than within the Dems, who would unite even stronger as Resistants. Because the Republican Party would lose - if not this election, more fundamentally its very soul.

Kerry proved he has the ability to work hand in hand with Republicans because he is the one candidate to respect the values that built America, and most Republicans share this vision.

You are a Republican and you want to vote for Kerry but you are wondering if it is consistent ? It is, since President Bush is not a Republican. He doesn't respect the Republic (the res publica is about accepting the debate, bringing the issues out there, not about hidden agendas, undiscussed laws, preventing even Republicans from knowing what's going on...) nor the values that earned this country respect from its citizens as well as from other countries. As a Republican, you have a moral duty to protect your country. And the biggest danger it is facing right now is not terror but about the direction it is about to take, about it's very leadership. You are making the right choice for a true Republican.

Red Blogule to this "pro-life" President - Stem cells : who's the murderer ?

Somebody tell me why this "pro-life" President, so much eager to protect life in the form of embryos, is the biggest supporter of death penalty and holds the record for executions in the US.

Somebody tell me why this man, who says every tiny cell counts, doesn't show any remorse when soldiers die because of his failures or kids are slaughtered during his massive bombings to smoke Zarkawi out before November the 2nd.

Somebody tell me why this imposteur, who dares say he defends the values that built America, should even have the slightest chance of fooling the electors once more.

Red Blogule to the diplomacy of coercion - al Qaeda votes Bush

Archives 20041019

Look how Dubya tries to draft more leaders behind his reelection bid:
- For over one year and a half, Blair has been coerced into redeploying more soldiers to the Iraqi hot spots. He managed to postpone the decision till now but cannot refuse anymore since Washington imposed an ultimatum. Should he refuse, he would contradict his own defense of the invation and lose next elections. The only reason why he's hesitating now is : "what if this son of a Bush loses his own elections ?"
- Putin says terrorists want his fellow dictator Bush ousted November the 2nd, but why would muslim fundamentalists want to fire their best ally in the world ? To the contrary, they contribute to the climate of fear that keeps this excuse for a Prez rolling in the polls. What will Putin get for casting his ballot ? Expect a global warming of the relationships between him and the US. Expect a generous portion of Youkos to land in certain oily hands. Expect a wider access to Iraqi contracts to Russian investors.
- Look how Powell is travelling across the globe these days. Expect a kind intervention from say Koizumi or Berlusconi, lauding Dubya's stature as commander in chief of the biggest diplomatic failure this side of WWII.

Red Blogule to the November (c)Rush - Comical Ali Burton

Archives 20041016

The US army is carpet bombing Fallujah again. This time the aim is to get Zarkawi before November the 2nd, whatever the cost for the population (and for the image of the US - this is not the deserted mountains of Tora-Bora we're talking about but an Iraqi city where many kids have already been killed by the American bombs).

Significantly, the man has just been put on the list of most wanted terrorists because Bush knows he can get him ("smoke him out"?) on time. But Bush is not your friendly cow-boy hero; he is the corrupted sheriff who invited the bad guys to rule the country.

Again, bringing more chaos and fueling more hatred abroad, hurrying the agendas of the country you invaded is not the most respectful way of salvaging an election. Bush is right when he says we should get rid of the thugs: it's time for him to get the heck outta the White House.

White Blogule to the US Prez debates - The Rock and the snake

Archives 20041014 (see blogules 2004)

The three debates clearly exposed the characters of both candidates : on one side a steady rock, inflexible on principles but animated by positive dynamics, on the other, a snake unable to elevate the debate but when exposing his religious fanatism.

As Kerry confirmed his Presidential stature, Bush confirmed his smallness. What a contrast between the consistance of the Senator across the 3 debates, and the inconsistance of a next-ex changing roles at each debate, hiding in uncomfortable jokes and winks, cowardly running away from his responsibilities and stubbornly refusing to accept his failures.

White Blogule to the US Prez debates - The 3 winners of last night

The three undisputed winners of debate #3 are the Yanks and the Cards (which defeated Boston and Houston as the candidates were on stage), and John Kerry, who while the men were watching the play-offs could connect with the feminine part of the audience a much more honest and efficient way than Dubya did in debate 2.

White Blogule - putting more pressure on Dubya for debate 2

20041004

(discussion between prez debates 1 and 2)

Homeland security is one thing, homegrown propaganda another. Kerry should expose W in next debate.

Last thursday, John made a strong point remembering Osama was the one who did 9/11, not Saddam. He has one more move to do in order to complete the home run on this issue.Let's make it clear, with the bold facts :
- because of the Weapons of Mass Disinformation carpeting the US since 9/11, too many US citizen still believe there was a link between Iraq and 9/11
- the intelligence cannot be blamed since the only tiny thread (a meeting in Baghdad) was very early confirmed as a fake by the US as well as by European and Middle East intel services
- the Veep keeps telling lies about it
- the Prez did admit something but not wholeheartedly, and even now keeps leaking fake lapses (oops, did it again during debate 1 - too bad a smart man was in the audience and had the opportunity to talk back)

Here and now, during this very debate and in the name of truth, let Kerry ask Bush to confirm he was wrong when he said there was a link between Saddam and 9/11, and that Dick Cheney, the man who would be President if anything happened to him, is wrong when he maintains it. Now regarding the way this Administration is defending the US : the strategy is totally counterproductive. It is the way a fascist regime would proceed : isolating the country from its partners, depriving citizens from freedom and raising fear across the land with people as respectful of democracy as Hoover or McCarthy, exporting chaos and fueling terrorism abroad and at home with a crusade in the name of God...

The question is not what President Kerry could do to improve this arsenal, but how long it will take for America to fix the mess and restore its pride.

Bush fails to defend the US because he fails to respect its values. He is corrupting America from the inside and should not be allowed to do more harm at the command of the country...

White Blogule to the first US Prez debate - Masks off

Archives 20041004

Thursday's debate revealed both candidates as they truly are : an honest man guided by a strong personal ambition but also the values that built America, and a man less and less able to hide his own limits and contradictions.

The thing is the one who doubts is not the one you may think : while Kerry decides after a long decision process but never compromises on values, Bush doubts more fundamentally about himself. His own lies don't fool him anymore and he knows his so called values are just one more set of lies.

For over one year now George W. Bush has been betrayed by his body language : the more the man insists on his confidence, the more his body screams the opposite. Last thursday, this lonely man looked like the tragic buffon success has abandoned. Beyond the loss of the debate (how could a man who refuses the very idea of debate win ?), Bush seems lost for good.

Can his staff manage a spectacular turnaround before next debate - any other way than with more lies in more coward ads that is ? I can't even dare imagining how deep in the mud Karl Rove will have to dig this time...

Red Blogule to W - Bush flip-flopping before the debate

Archives 20040928

Funny how Dubya's man in Iraq (the great democrat Allawi formerly known as "Saddam Sans Moustache" in Baghdad) raised the opportunity of an international conference about Iraq just days before the Kerry-Bush debate on international issues.

The French had been asking for such a conference for over one year, but Bush remained deaf to their recommandations. Now the French diplomats are finding ways to postpone this meeting since they do not want the process to be hostage to Bush's reelection bid.

I'm sick and tired of the manipulation of the international agenda by King Dubya of the Banana Republic of the Divided States of America. The truth is Bush failed. He brought chaos instead of democracy. He fueled so much hatred across the muslim world any true democratic process would bring extremists to power. Do the Americans want to be treated as puppets too ? Do they really want four more years of this sick joke ?

Red Blogule to Allawi - Allawi is the thug

20040924

The Americans are not told Bush's man in Baghdad was nicknamed "Saddam Sans Moustache" by the Iraqis as Hussein ruled. That he was one of his worst thugs till Saddam decided to mollify the Baath doctrine.

Allawi dares present himself as a hero because of his hostility to Saddam, but he was the one to blow the whistle to the dictator for the uprising attempt in Kurdistan, contributing to the bloodbath.

Now that he has the job he'd been dreaming of for decades (fighting over it with his cousin Chalabi), Allawi is not likely to leave it. He's bound to have the democratic legitimacy he needs because Bush forced elections in Iraq in january so that no opponent has time to make himself known.

Now Allawi can pay Bush back by praising his disastrous attack on Iraq, contributing to his French bashing frenzy or whatever his master sees fit.

Democracy ? No way Jose. Business as usual.

"Lobby Dick" could very much be convicted for the Halliburton-Technip scandal (corruption in Nigeria during the late 90s). The French prosecutor is considering asking the presidents of all the companies involved (Halliburton's KBR, France's Technip, Italy's Snamprogetti and Japan's JGC) to testify.

John Ashcroft is to meet France's Minister of Justice, Dominique Perben, on september the 30th. The issue will definitely be raised, and one could envision 2 scenarii :
- the clash : nothing is done to prevent Cheney's embarrassing fate
- the last minute deal : we save your campaign, do something for us (ie cancel that heavy fine you set earlier this year for the French regarding the Executive Life scandal - the person who's supposed to pay the most is a close friend to Chirac).

Red Blogule to Bush Outlook 2.0 - No to Bush's agenda

Archives 20040919

Bush keeps on abusing the countries he "liberated" to serve his own agenda. He already "democratically" imposed an impossible schedule for the elections in Afghanistan and Iraq (even if he eventually could not get elections before november the 2nd in Iraq, he managed to get them in january, which is much too soon according to everyone).

Now, just because the heat is on him for the situation in Iraq (and right after the UN wisely remembered the international audience the war was illegal and the january schedule was absurd), he's organizing the Saddam trial for next month !!!

And we still do not know how this trial will be held, since Mr Democracy refuses to abid to international standards and made his own country an outlaw : no to a legal war, no to the international tribunal, no to the Geneva standards - even in the usage of forbidden weapons of destruction (the defragmentation bombs the US and UK used in Iraq, which killed hundreds of people, are strictly forbidden by Geneva)...

You will hear a lot about Afghanistan since Bush has planned presidential elections there for october the 9th - totally insane considering the situation there (and Afghani leaders complain, except the man the US put in power*), but what counts is the nov 2nd elections.

You said it : Afghanistan was a war on terror... not Iraq. But the US didn't invest what they said they would : the country is back to mass production of drug, and anarchy rules across the country. Talibans and intolerance are back, security is inexistant but in certain parts of Kabul. "Dismission accomplished".

Bush waged the war there because he was compelled to. But he used this alibi ticket to ride much further than allowed...

Red Blogule to "dismission accomplished"- Don't let Bush take the lead and tell more lies about Afghanistan

Archives 20040910 (see blogules 2004)

Attacking Bush on Iraq is fine, but don't forget Afghanistan's "demission accomplished". Bush wanted free elections to help his reelection, and they will take place on october the 9th. Get ready for more disinformation folks.

What Bush will say : Afghanistan is discovering democracy. For the first time, free elections will be held. 18 candidates prove there is a true democracy on the move. Mission accomplished. + BONUS : by the way, we just arrested Osama in the area! Vote for me!

What we must say about Bush's failure in Afghanistan : "dismission accomplished". Because of the war in Iraq, the US didn't finish the job in Afghanistan. The country didn't receive the help it was supposed to get. Intolerance and insecurity are back, so are the talibans, and the production of drug has boomed as never before. Bush betrayed his promise to Afghanistan, which was supposed to be the priority. Afghanistan was truly about the war on terro, not Iraq. Everybody supported it and French soldiers are still fighting there. But Bush used this alibi ticket for a wilder ride.

What we must know about these elections : most democrats in Afghanistan denounce them as a simple reelection tool for Bush. The country is not ready for elections, the calendar is too short to let a real campaign take place, and most people don't even have any ID in the country. Everything is set to elect Karzai, the man of Washington. Because the world was focusing on Iraq, it was possible to prevent the same from happening there, but at the beginning, Bush demanded elections in Iraq to be held before november 2004 too...

.He is not clean. He may have recovered from booze and dope but is still badly addicted to power

Red Blogule to the "Dear Compassionate Leader" - Bush: the opposite of compassion

Archives 20040910 (see blogules 2004)

Imposture again. Would deserve more exposure in the medias.

How dares Bush say he is compassionate after missing such an historical opportunity as the "after 9/11"?

Just remember - it's not that far away: right after America has been struck by the most massive terrorist attack ever, the whole world is with the USA and grieves with them. Beyond terror, there is the hope for a new world: will the international community seize this unique opportunity to do things differently, to move closer to each other, to build a more tolerant and compassionate world ? The very first statesman to visit the US and Ground Zero is a man who as a mayor and Prime Minister, knew all about being hit by terror. A man who knew the worst thing to do was to start a religious crusade and fuel the hatred across the globe. Jacques Chirac offers Bush his full support and will send troops to Afghanistan because the war to the Taliban regime is legitimate for the war on terror.

But the POTUS made the wrong choices. Instead of leveraging on the support of the whole international community, he accumulates mistakes and manages, within a few weeks, to have most countries against the US (and the few leaders backing his crusades don't have the support of their own people). The victim becomes a wreckless outlaw, the criminals become heroes or victims. Bush is killing the 9/11 victims one more time, and will even do it once more during his campaign, using the images of the tragedy for his reelection ads.

The problem is showing compassion is not being compassionate, especially when you're making a show out of your so called compassion. Compassion is not about stealing other people's hearts.

But the American people isn't aware of this imposture. People who know are those who are used and abused by Bush's weapons of mass disinformation:
- look at the grieving 9/11 families opposing this misuse of their pain
- hear the Iraqi soccer players rebel at the Athens Olympics when they hear Bush is trying to take advantage of their successes (Bush eventually canceled his plans to go to Athens and tried to send his dove alibi Powell instead. A series of demonstrations made Powell cancel his trip too)
- listen to the Afghan leaders complain about the october 9 presidential elections (the calendar is totally irrealistic for the country, they know these elections are just another argument for Bush reelection campaign).

For the ex-prez-to-be, I'd suggest "Dear Compassionate Leader". It suits the disinformation campaign conducted about his personality, and that's the way a North Korean dictator could be dubbed.

(discussion following previous blogule - Bush loves his role but is a puppet)

Definietely. Bush insistes heavily on his decision making capabilities because he knows he's always been a puppet to these lads, always been surrounded by powerful people and expecting their recognition*.

His lapses / bushisms about wishing to be a dictator or not feeling accountable to anyone prove he's craving for more because he is not fully exercing power.

Yet, power abuse is getting him high at different stages : when he announces the decision to the public, and when he feels the envy / respect / expectation from other people's look. It is a matter of make-believe. But deep inside, he's still the same unsure self. It shows on the TV. Body language doesn't lie.

This is why Dubya constantly needs to be told you good boy did the right thing, you look great, especially in this pilot suit, you're the hell of a golf player (I did watch your drive buddy... awesome!)...

Red Blogule to BUSH, THE NEW HUGO CHAVEZ

Stop demagogy!

Dubya is using the same tricks as Chavez and could get the same results as his fellow dictator if the American audience doesn't get any wake up call. Soon.Time to remember how inspirational the man can be, but how delusive he actually is.

Time to say "It's democracy, stupid".

Some extracts from his inauguration speech (20010120) :

  • . "Through much of the last century, America's faith in freedom and democracy was a rock in a raging sea. Now it is a seed upon the wind, taking root in many nations."
=> A seed of torture upon a wind of shock and awe. What kind of freedom and democracy are you talking about?
  • . "America, at its best, matches a commitment to principle with a concern for civility. A civil society demands from each of us good will and respect, fair dealing and forgiveness."
=> Some still do expect that from you. Along with apologies.
  • . "If we permit our economy to drift and decline, the vulnerable will suffer most".
=> You're gifted with precognition, man.
  • . "We will confront weapons of mass destruction, so that a new century is spared new horrors".
=> And we will use weapons of mass disinformation, so that our voters are spared the horrors we provoque and even sometimes commit.
  • . "The enemies of liberty and our country should make no mistake: America remains engaged in the world by history and by choice, shaping a balance of power that favors freedom. We will defend our allies and our interests. We will show purpose without arrogance. We will meet aggression and bad faith with resolve and strength. And to all nations, we will speak for the values that gave our nation birth."
=> Make no mistake : now all nations despise your arrogance and your betrayal of your own nation's values.
  • . "And I can pledge our nation to a goal : when we see that wounded traveler on the road to Jericho, we will not pass to the other side."
=> Yeah. You just drove the damn tank over him. And made sure the damns walls were fully destroyed.
  • . "America, at its best, is a place where personal responsibility is valued and expected."
=> Thus, we'd value and are expecting your non reelection.
  • . "Our public interest depends on private character, on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom."
=> Family bonds it is. Along with honored acts of indecency. The problem is the public interest depends on your very private character.
  • . "After the Declaration of Independance was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson : 'We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm ?' Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity. We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another. Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life. This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm."
=> What a quote ! You knew from the start the race was about swift boats and dignity. You just don't fit in, and the Karl Rove directing the storm is no angel. Learn more about duty and service in your public library (I don't think there will be many other books in your own prez library than your faves : "My Pet Goat", the Reverend Moon's autobiography, "An End To Evil" by Richard Pearle and David Frum... and of course The Stubborn Again Christian Handbook...).
Some extracts from Dubya's acceptance speech (20001213) :
  • . "Our nation must rise above a house divided. Americans share hopes and goals and values far more important than any political disagreements"
=> Are the US more divided now than 4 years ago ? Betcha !
  • . "I know America wants reconciliation and unity. I know Americans want progress. And we must seize this moment and deliver."
=> Like seizing Iraq and delivering goodies to old pals ?
  • . "Together, guided by a spirit of common sense, common courtesy and common goals, we can unite and inspire the American citizens".
=> Courtesy might be your middle name, when you let Karl do the dirty job (I love the "Turd Blossom" you use as a nickname for your first counselor).
  • . "Together, we will work to make all our public schools excellent, teaching every student of every background and every accent, so that no child is left behind".
=> Taught 'em how to die in Iraq, didn't you ? Why didn't you include your own major (Dodger 101) in your costly tuition program?
  • . "Together we will save Social Security and renew its promise of a secure retirement for generations to come."
=> Social Security and secure retirement for all, no former Halliburton CEO should be left behind.
  • . "Together we will strengthen Medicare and offer prescription drug coverage to all of our seniors"
=> Too bad daddy let you use all these non-prescription drugs when you were young...
  • . "Together we will give Americans the broad, fair and fiscally responsible tax relief they deserve."
=> ... and a jumbo size deficit while you're at it.
  • . "Together we'll have a bipartisan foreign policy true to our values and true to our friends, and we will have a military equal to every challenge and superior to every adversary."
=> By "bipartisan", you meant Lookheed and Martin ? Halli and Burton ? Come on ! Gimme a break. But your military surpasses Saddam's, that's for sure. Even in torture.
  • . "This is the essence of compassionate conservatism and it will be a foundation of my administration."
=> Compassionate conservatism indeed. Now you and your compadres can leave. Please.
  • . "These priorities are not merely Republican concerns or Democratic concerns; they are American responsibilities."

Red Blogule to the French language - No equivalent to "liberal"

Archives 20040901 (see blogules 2004)

(discussion : "neocon" a reaction to Bourdieu's "neoliberalism" concept)

There is a translation issue here. In French, a "liberal" person is in favor of unleashed capitalism and total deregulation. From an Hegelian point of view, one may think the French are so much enslaved in capitalism their language considers ultimate capitalism as ultimate freedom.

The thing is we frogs don't have a word that could match "liberal" as you mean it. We tend to stick to XIXth century references (capitalism vs socialism, progressivism...). Such adjectives as "pragmatic" fix some voids, and one could translate "centrism" with "how-the-heck-should-we-call-em-guys-that-don't-fit-in-ism".We badly need to change references, and economy remains a fairly exotic science to the bulk of my fellow citizens (the Bourdieu you quote is a philosopher). To sum it up I think we somehow dub "conservative" someone who didn't adapt to the first industrial revolution (the majority of the population doesn't even know such thing as an "industrial revolution" ever happened), "liberal" someone who'd like a longer leash for his attachment to our "omnipotent - ventripotent" state, and "socialist" someone who loves to consider himself generous but who'd never give up any of his privileges nor share his own wealth.

We're so much fond of "isms" that we're not likely to think "responsible economics" anytime soon.

Red Blogule to the New Lie - France was not against a war on Iraq (if all other options failed)

Archives 20040829 (see blogules 2004)

GWB on CNN's Larry King Live : "this debate on coalitions is a very interesting debate. Sometimes I think they're basically saying that there is no such thing as a coalition unless the French are involved. But the truth of the matter is, the French are involved in Afghanistan, and the French have been involved in Haiti. The French government just didn't agree with the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power. And, therefore, there was a difference of opinion on that issue."

A Frenchman, I cannot accept this lie : the issue was not about removing Saddam from power but about starting a war with a wrong motive, without any propper peace strategy, but with a clear and immediate danger of fueling terrorism across the planet in general and BRINGING it to Iraq in particular. The war in Afghanistan was completely linked to the war on terror. Too bad Mr Bush used this token for an illegal wild ride, forgetting to finish the job where it mattered : instead of financing what was planned there, he's asking for more billions to cover up his mess in Baghdad. Afghanistan is back to drug mass production, insecurity, corruption and intolerance. Dismission accomplished.

Bush should remember the position of the French government : they were not against a war on Iraq, but only if all other options failed. War isn't only a matter of boys using toys and friends getting contracts. The decision of going to war should not be left into the hands of this man.

Red Blogule to the Electoral College system - Abolish

Archives 20040829 (see blogules 2004)

(discussion about the US system of indirect prez elections)

I'm not very found of the Electoral College system either, which is not fully democratic. But I consider the primaries an interesting crash test for a most-powerful-person-in-the-world wannabee (pure demagogists could be elected - Howard Dean is one thing, Hugo Chavez another kind).

Yet, direct vote is the best system for such a national election (especially since the US consider themselves a leading democracy), not this "nationocal" madness where Republican supporters back Nader and voting methods vary from one state or one county to another (ie the nepotic Banana Republic system in Florida). In this country, the knowledge is kept by a minority and the majority can easily be betrayed (ie the Y2K Floridian bug).

A reform is badly needed and local elections should be held independantly from the national ones. It should be a Federal issue where Governors have no right to cook according to their own receipe.

Red Blogule to the use of terror - Terrorists and Resistants

20040828 (see blogules 2004)

(discussion about the definition of a terrorist)

Defining a terrorist is actually a tricky task. I'd rather use the expression "terrorist actions" or better "actions of terror" since a terrorist is defined by his actions rather than by his permanent state (Arafat proved a former terrorist could be awarded a Nobel Prize).

Terrorists and resistants shouldn't be opposed since resistance is an aim and terror a means. Thus, some resistants do use terror. Does the aim justify the means is another question - I guess a true resistant should resist certain temptations.

One should also avoid the dangerous turf of "good vs evil" to draw the line. The problem with Bush is the way he uses terror and even the word "terror". To me, his definition of a terrorist should be extended to anyone threatening his reelection.

Still, there is a notion of "positive action" or kind of : with resistance and sabotage, you are opposing a force directly, sometimes through its symbol if you cannot manage any "better". With terror you can also weaken an ennemy overwhelmingly stronger than you, but you do not strike at the source of the force and go for the weakest part of the society. Bringing fear and destruction is the thing, and publicity (at home and/or abroad) a must. And the action is more important than the actor (terrorist) : the fear is greater if you do not know who's striking. I am anyone and everyone, I can strike anyone anywhere anytime.

White Blogule to the Young Republicans - Young Republicans Denounce Bush

20040824 (see blogules 2004)

Once again, in George Bush's Divided States of America, the great divide is not between Republicans and Democrats, but between the people who respect democracy and the republic on one side, and this very Bush Administration on the other one.

The wake up call from the young generation of Republicans exposed in this article is great news for the Republican Party, but also American politics in general. The John-John ticket should rejoice as well:
"Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 - Earlier this month, a group of students met in Washington to bash George W. Bush, debate the power of multinational corporations and hear a speaker who denounced the Iraq war, the Patriot Act and stricter airport security. A leader of these college kids calls them "the new counterculture", but here's the thing: they aren't liberals. The 185 students were in Washington to attend the 26th annual National Conservative Student Conference."

Nader tipping balance ? The guy's accepting tips from Republican supported lobbies : CSE (Citizens for a Sound Economy / Freedomworks) will help him get on the ballot in key states. Nader 2004 declined to answer when I asked their position regarding this support. Stop telling lies Ralphie: you are no more independent.

Just have a look at the CSE's website:
=> Their press releases : "Michigan CSE Turns Out Members for Nader Ballot Push"
=> The profiles of both CSE CEOs :
  • "Dick Armey - co-chairman of CSE - Former Majority Leader D.A. has had a very distinguished career as Congressman for the 26th District of Texas. He was active in passing legislation related to military base closure and realignments, agriculture subsidy reforms, free trade, education scolarships for disadvantaged children and Homeland Security. He has served as ranking Republican on the Joint Economic Committee, as Chairman of the Republican Conference and as Majority Leader of the House where he had full responsibility for the legislative schedule. During his last year as a Member of Congress he served as Chairman of the Select Committee on Homeland Security.
  • "C. Boyden Gray - co-chairman of CSE - Gray is a partner at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering where he focuses on a range of regulatory matters including, environmental, biotechnology, trade, clean air, and risk management. Gray served as counsel to George Bush, during his terms as president and vice president. Gray also clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina Law School.
=> Some quotes from CSE supporters in the "about us" section (I just picked up 3 names out of 5) :
  • "Folks, you've got to get to know this organization... They have been doing a great job all over the country educating people". President George W. Bush (NB : the expert in education known for slashing education budgets and taking some time to read My Pet Goat)
  • "CSE is one of the most effective grassroots lobbying organizations around - anywhere." Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris (NB : yeah, that Kathy Harris who made sure Florida voters were betrayed)
  • "You guys are everywhere" - Florida Governor Jeb Bush (NB : brrrr, even at the Supreme Court ? - scary, uh?)
Shall we let Bush-Nader 2004 get the same results as Bush-Nader 2000 ? Let us expose Nader's contradictions.

A few insights :
. "State police officers have gone into the homes of elderly black voters in Orlando and interrogated them as part of an odd "investigation" that has frightened many voters, intimidated elderly volunteers and thrown a chill over efforts to get out the black vote in November."
. "The officers, from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which reports to Gov. Jeb Bush, say they are investigating allegations of voter fraud that came up during the Orlando mayoral election in March."
. "Not surprisingly, many of the elderly black voters who found themselves face to face with state police officers in Orlando are members of the Orlando League of Voters, which has been very successful in mobilizing the city's black vote".

Governor Bush seems to have the same approach of democracy as his brother. It's not about family anymore: this is an actual Klan...

(discussion on the impossibility of raising Israel-Palestine issues during the campaign)

Indeed, criticizing Israel is a no / no in the US. Listening to Clinton on CNN yesterday, I was once more disappointed by the mildness of his criticism. Off course he's still competing to become the US' "First Male First Lady" and cannot fully spill his beans. He cannot imagine any solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict outside of the Israel-Palestine-US triangle, even if only the UN could provide an independant and (west ?) bankable background.

The relationship between the US and Israel is not sane and has no equivalent in History. On one hand Israel seems a US protectorate, on the other hand Israel holds a firm grip on US politics and media. And it goes beyond the Rep-Dem barrier. The ties with Saudi Arabia are not very sane either but can easily be summed up in such units as currencies or gallons.

But I cannot accept the indecence of Bush when he dares comparing himself to FDR and Churchill, comparing post-war Iraq and post-war Europe. If a comparison were to be made, 1918-19 would be more suitable than 1944-45. The poor handling of the victory vs Germany shaped the next World War and was key to the rise of Hitler.

As a Frenchman I'm ashamed of the way we humiliated Germany back then with the Versailles treaty, even occupying part of their country and exploiting their natural ressources in key industrial regions (without the help of Halliburton but as boldly).

Red Blogule to neo-fascists - LET'S FACE IT THEY'RE FASCISTS

Archives 20040527-0602 (see blogules 2004)

(Disinfopedia discussion about the definition of "neo-cons" - "formerly liberals, now conservatives" ? should they be called "imperialists" instead ?)

"Neo" is too positive a prefix for such a medieval mob. Strangely enough, the "neo-cons" hate the liberals just like the Nazis hated (among too many others) the socialists and communists. And the word "Nazi" comes from National Socialism...

As far as I'm concerned, I'd dub them "fascists" rather than "imperialists". Such is fascism as defined by Benito Mussolini himself in 1932 (note that there is also a reference to imperialism...) :
  • Definition of Fascism by Benito Mussolini - 1932 (Source Fordham.edu)

  • . "Fascism, the more it considers and observes the future and the development of humanity quite apart from political considerations of the moment, believes neither in the possibility nor the utility of perpetual peace. It thus repudiates the doctrine of Pacifism -- born of a renunciation of the struggle and an act of cowardice in the face of sacrifice. War alone brings up to its highest tension all human energy and puts the stamp of nobility upon the peoples who have courage to meet it. All other trials are substitutes, which never really put men into the position where they have to make the great decision -- the alternative of life or death"...

  • . "Fascism combats the whole complex system of democratic ideology, and repudiates it, whether in its theoretical premises or in its practical application. Fascism denies that the majority, by the simple fact that it is a majority, can direct human society; its denies that numbers alone can govern by means of a periodical consultation, and it affirms the immuable, beneficial, and fruitful inequality of mankind, which can never be permanently leveled through the mere operation of a mechanical process such as universal suffrage. (...) Fascism denies, in democracy, the absurd conventional untruth of political equality dressed out in the garb of collective irresponsibility, and the myth of "happiness" and indefinite progress."...

  • . "The foundation of Fascism is the conception of the State, its character, its duty, and its aim. Fascism conceives of the State as an absolute, in comparison with which all individuals or groups are relative, only to be conceived of in their relation to the State. The conception of the Liberal State is not that of a directing force, guiding the play and development, both material and spiritual, of a collective body, but merely a force limited to the function of recording results : on the other hand, the Fascist State is itself conscious and has itself a will and a personality -- thus it may be called the "ethic" State"...

  • . "The Fascist State organizes the nation, but leaves a sufficient margin of liberty to the individual; the latter is deprived of all useless and possibly harmful freedom, but retains what is essential; the deciding power in this question cannot be the individual, but the State alone"...

  • . "For Fascism, the growth of empire, that is to say the expansion of the nation, is an essential manifestation of vitality, and its opposite a sign of decadence. Peoples which are rising, or rising again after a period of decadence, are always imperialists; and renunciation is a sign of decay and of death. Fascism is the doctrine best adapted to represent the tendencies and the aspirations of a people, like the people of Italy, who are rising again after many centuries of abasement and foreign servitude. But empire demands disciplin, the coordination of all forces and a deeply felt sense of duty and sacrifice; this fact explains many aspects of the practical working of the regime, the character of many forces in the State, and the necessarily severe measures which must be taken against those who would oppose this spontaneous and inevitable movement of Italy in the nineteenth century - repudiated wheresoever there has been the courage to undertake great experiments of social and political transformation; for never before has the nation stood more in need of authority, of direction and order. If every age has its own characteristic doctrine, there are a thousand signs which point to Fascism as the characteristic doctrine of our time. For if a doctrine must be a living thing, this is proved by the fact that Fascism has created a living faith; and that this faith is very powerful in the minds of men is demonstrated by those who have suffered and died for it"...
Doesn't it ring any (alarm) bell ?

Rummy is delighted to notice a boom in consumer goods in Iraq. But the fact home appliances and cars are being bought doesn't necessarily mean the Iraqi people are enjoying them.

The truth is there is almost no electricity in the country, even in Baghdad (4 hours per day tops for the luckiest - what is the use of a fridge ?), and while thousands of gallons are being exported every day, people have to stay in line for hours to get some gas at a station. There is a surge in consumption for the people who actually can make money: thieves or corrupted officials. In the meanwhile, the US are protecting as much as they can the exports, making a priority the financing of the war and of SIGHs (Special Interest Groups, Halliburton & Co).

There is no reason why the US should recover the cost of their invasion before the Iraqi people recover their survival means. The priority should be given to the Iraqi people, and the bulk of the exports should first finance their administrations (education, security, first help) and companies. The handover to the Iraqi people is also a matter of wealth.

What irritates me most about Iraq is not the fact everything was foreseeable (except the US public opinion harrassed by Weapons of Mass Disinformation, no one was actually deceived). It is the fact a great part of strategical mistakes were not mistakes but actual clear-headed-cold-blodded choices.

History will remember this troubled era when fundamentalists held the power and/or the media simultaneously in the Middle-East, in Israel and in the US, feeding each other with their radical ideologies. It is high time to remove the leaders that can be removed and it is high time for each religion to speak aloud and expose their values of tolerance and respect. Democracy gives opportunities to both the US and Israel, Christianism has one leader who can - at times - speak for his church, but there is no equivalent for Islam. Saudi Arabia could play a positive role... once they kick the wahabbits, that is.

Let us remember the worst enemies of al Qaeda are not the US (right now Bush is actually their best ally), but moderate muslims whose only weapon is speech and most of the time don't have any license to carry such a dangerous weapon.
